They say that sometimes, out of the darkness, light appears.  I guess this is kinda the case.  It all went down 3 weeks ago...

My grandparents and aunt were in a severe car accident and unfortunately, after 2 weeks of in the intensive care unit, my aunt passed away.  We were all pretty much devastated and the fall-out has really taken its toll on my family.  

After the funeral, I approached the priest to thank him for all of his support and caring for my family.  Well, Father Dave and I got to talking and he ended up commissioning me for a piece to add to his collection of Nativity scenes!  Here's the kicker, his request was quite progressive and rather daring.  He wants me to create a Modern-day Nativity scene.  In lieu of shepherds and wise men, he requested that I depict people that seem to live on the "fringes of society" coupled with three figures in the upper echelons of society (3 wisemen = 3 executive-type figures).

It's going to be a challenge and it will take me a while, but I'm up to it.  It will be a while, but expect it on dA within the next few months!

So I got this bright idea to start messing with portraiture and "realistic" drawing.  BAD IDEA.  Why was it a bad idea?  Because I can't stop!  Currently I'm working on a portrait of Debbie Harry (lead singer of Blondie) and not only do I work until my eyes and my hands can't take it anymore, but I lose track of time so easily that before I look at my clock 2 to 3 hours have slipped by.  The thing is, I've put about 8-9 solid hours of work into this picture and it's still not where I want it.  I think I'm getting OCD about this one.

Oh well.

Ok, forget the silent film thing...

I'm getting back into photo-manips.  I've had a few days off of work (thanx to snow days) so I've had time to sit down and whip a few up in good ol' photoshop cs.  Rock rock on.

I need to update this more often.  Anywho...I'm still teaching art at the charter school.  And it's sapping me of everything I've got.  I come home everyday so emotionally drained it's ridiculous.  But...I still love my job.  Makes me insane, doesn't it?

Awright...on the art scene, I'm currently going through a phase.  I'm obsessed with depicting characters and scenes from old films...particularly silent films.  I just posted one from "Nosferatu".  Keep your eye out for these:

I gotta job!!!

I'm the new art teacher at a small charter school about a 1/2 hour from my house.

I teach grades K-8.  My students have mild-moderate special needs...most of which are autism, adhd, ED, ODD, and general miscellany.  

So far though...I love my job.  HAHA!




I should be writing lesson plans now...........................
